Candle Making with Essential Oils

Candle Making with Essential Oils

Bring the season into your home with these easy-to-make candles and create your favourite scent.

This Example recipe is for a Winter Candle, but replace the drops with 1 or 2 of your favourite oils.

2 cups soy wax for candle making
Natural candle wick
15-20 drops Douglas Fir essential oil
15-20 drops Frankincense essential oil
Lolipop sticks
250mL glass jar or tin candle holder
Glass measuring cup
Decorative ribbon (optional)

  1. Place measuring cup with wax in a few centimetres of boiling water to create a double boiler
  2. Add Frankincense and Douglas Fir essential oils (or any other oils you would like to try out)
  3. When the wax is melted in the double boiler use a spoon to drip a little bit of wax at the bottom of your jar or canister.
  4. Stick the wick in place while the wax is still liquid. Hold the wick in place until the wax is cool and hardened.
  5. Pour in the melted wax to fill your jar using 2 popsicle sticks to keep the wick in place while the wax is cooling and hardening.
  6. Wait 45 minutes for the wax to cool and harden. You may wish to put the candle in the fridge to speed up this process.
  7. Once the candle is hardened, trim the wick so that it sits about a centimetre above the top of the wax.
  8. Optionally, glue on your decorations. The possibilities are endless!

About wild orange and use

About wild orange oil:

dōTERRA’s wild orange oil is sourced from the Dominican Republic, cold pressed (expressed) from the rinds (peels) of the Citrus sinensis fruit, yielding an oil with a sweet, fresh, citrus aroma, high in monoterpenes, including the chemical compound d-limonene.

Wild orange oil is uplifting to the mind and body.  It is high in antioxidants, helping to maintain overall health and protect against seasonal and environmental threats.  It is ideal to enhance immunity when seasonal threats are high.

Wild orange is also a powerful cleanser and purifying agent.  It can be taken daily, to cleanse the body, or used on surfaces, as a natural cleaner.  Diffusing wild orange will energize and uplift the mind and body, while purifying the air.  It also enhances any essential oil blend with a fresh, sweet, refreshing aroma.

Wild orange is used extensively as a fragrance component in soaps, detergents, cosmetics and perfumes, and in the food and drinks industry.

Primary benefits of wild orange oil

  • Powerful cleanser and purifying agent
  • Protects against seasonal and environmental threats

  • Use with direct inhalation, to energize the mind and body.  Simply dispense one to two drops of wild orange into the palm of your hand, along with equal parts peppermint and frankincense.  Rub your palms together, then cup them over your face and inhale deeply.  Rub any remaining oil on the back of your neck.

How to use wild orange oil

Wild orange oil is intended for aromatic, topical or dietary use.  It is gentle enough to be used neat.

Essential oils for energy

Create Motivation and Energy

Do you find it hard to get out of bed every morning? Do you suffer with the lack of energy during the day? Do you find yourself reaching out for your numerous coffee refills and it’s barely mid-afternoon, maybe try reaching for an essential oil the next time.

Essential oils can help wake up your whole body by invigorating the senses very quickly, and make you feel revitalized and energetic, leading to a clearer head and then greater productivity. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years, essential oils are amazing for their therapeutic properties and pack a powerful punch in such a small bottle! Only a few drops of these natural, potent aromatic compounds obtained from the flowers, leaves, seeds and bark of plants, can quickly get you back on your feet when you’re feeling depleted.

Let’s face it, we’ve all felt low on energy at times. There are many underlying reasons for feeling this way, including high stress, lack of proper sleep, adrenal fatigue, emotional  stress, low moods and more.
If you feel any of these symptoms below, you may be victim to low energy levels:

  • Inability to concentrate or focus
  • Lack of motivation
  • Feeling depressed
  • Body aches and pains
  • Feeling tired without having done much
  • Drowsiness at odd hours in the day
  • Increased or loss of appetite
  • Feeling irritable

Essential Oils are steam-distilled or cold-pressed, they are extracted from plants, and have aromatic properties which have incredibly amazing benefits.

Essential Oils are “adaptogens” because of their ability to uniquely “adapt” to the needs of the person using the oil, an irritated person might feel calm after using an oil, and a person with low energy levels may feel uplifted using the same oil!

The aromatic molecular compounds in essential oils can pass right through the blood/brain barrier, directly affecting the areas in our brain that control feelings of stress, anxiety and mental fatigue. Hence why the oils work so quickly as they enter the limbic system and into the brain and then changing your moods instantly.

So when you’re struggling with low energy, essential oils when applied topically, or inhaled and also used in a diffuser are proven to uplift the mood, re-energize, and calm mental stress.

Here are a few ways essential oils can help boost your energy levels:

  • Make you feel fresh and ready to tackle the day
  • Elevate your mood and promote positivity
  • Help you re-focus and concentrate
  • Reduce feelings of stress and anxiety
  • Alleviate fatigue and tiredness
  • Increase productivity levels
  • Give you the uplift you need to get going
